SMART Goals

SMART goals are a framework used to create effective objectives that are
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound

S

1. Specific

Goals should be clear and unambiguous. They should answer the questions of who, what, where, when, and why. Specific goals provide focus and clarity, making it easier to understand what needs to be achieved.

2. Measurable

Goals should include concrete criteria for measuring progress and success. They should quantify or qualify the desired outcome so that progress can be tracked and assessed. Measurable goals help in determining whether the objective has been achieved or not.

A

3. Achievable

Goals should be realistic and attainable within the constraints of resources, knowledge, and time. While it's good to set ambitious goals, they should still be feasible and within reach. Setting unattainable goals can lead to frustration and demotivation.

R

4. Relevant

Goals should be aligned with broader objectives and meaningful to the individual or organization setting them. They should contribute to the overall mission or vision and be relevant to current priorities and needs.

T

5. Time-bound

Goals should have a specific deadline or timeframe for completion. This helps create a sense of urgency and provides a clear target date for achieving the objective. Time-bound goals prevent procrastination and help maintain focus and momentum.
